When talking about the corrosion resistance of a metal component, we are referring to how well a particular material responds to damage and stresses caused by oxidization or similar chemical reactions—usually over time and dependant on a number of environmental factors.
Zinc alloys generally provide good corrosion resistance but weathering will diminish the surface. For decorative purposes therefor, parts should be lacquered, plated or painted. For environments that are susceptible to excessive corrosion, a chromating or zinc anodising finish should be considered to further protect the product.

Zinc has the ability to last as long as aluminium and offers greater scope for surface finishes. Chrome plating, powder coating and painting can all help to provide an additional layer of component protection.
