High pressure die casting with zinc-based alloys is one of the most versatile and efficient methods used for the manufacturing of strong, accurate, complex and intricately shaped metal components. As a result, high-pressure zinc castings have the good inherent strength and proven durability so are ideal for use in applications where components provide the interface between a product or appliance and the end user. The heavier weight of zinc die castings also enables them to convey a feeling of quality every time they are touched.
High pressure die casting provides the shortest route from molten metal to the completed component, by injecting molten metal into a hardened steel mould and allowing it to solidify under pressure before ejection.
The process starts by having the machinery capable of withstanding high-pressure production. The casting machine has molten metal pushed in via hydraulics, as a result injecting the zinc into a two-piece die containing one or more cavities. The cooling and solidification that takes places when the Zinc comes into contact with the tooling results in a structure with enhanced mechanical performance. Combined with the benefits of zinc alloy this produces superior castings when compared to other methods.
Zinc pressure die castings, for example, are stronger than sand cast 356-T6 aluminium, SAE 40 bronze, and class 30 cast iron. Also, pressure die cast components produced using the ZA alloys are stronger than pressure die cast aluminium 380 alloy.
As a result, our 9 high-pressure die casting machines (80-tonne – 120-tonne pressure) can offer precise, cost-effective production of zinc die castings, with exceptional appearance and finish.
